friday morning funnies

This isn't exactly like using social media to send email, but it's close. I'd have just re-posted these on Ye Olde Booke of Faces, but I really thought that [personal profile] branchandroot would enjoy them, and she won't see them there. Anyway, the rest of you might enjoy them too ;)

Cut for your antici... pation )

Kasich's latest

$MY_GOVERNOR is full of boneheaded ideas. The latest: instead of providing proper funding, let parents take over the management of failing schools, because surely they can do better than the underfunded professionals! (Or, perhaps the more likely thinking: they'll be willing to do even more unpaid work than teachers are!)

of cats, mice, and llamas

This just came to my attention, and I suspect you need to know:
Jeff DeBoer makes armor in a bunch of styles for cats and mice.

On the llama-front: my friend Celia wrote a song for/about me, and I couldn't be more thrilled!

on gendered pronouns

My dear otter posted a link to this blog post on kids acculturation to the diversity of possible gendered (and un-gendered) pronouns. I thought that some of you would appreciate this. The awkward syntax of the title has to do with it's being a quote from a 3-year-old:

Do you use Boy Words or Girl Words? Or the other words, but I can’t ‘amember them.

boys love manga

I just ran across this title and I suspect that most of you, my very-tiny dwircle (sp?), want to know about it:
Boys' Love Manga: Essays on the Sexual Ambiguity and Cross-Cultural Fandom of the Genre
Amazon | OhioLINK

One of the editors, Antonia Levi, has a really familiar-sounding name. Do y'all know her? (Oh, perhaps answering my own question: she wrote Samurai from Outer Space: Understanding Japanese Animation, which I ordered for our library many years ago.)

Also, I love how "Boys Love Manga" and "Boys' Love Manga" means such completely different things.

Also also in the collection-development haul:

Watchmen as Literature
and
The Simpsons in the Classroom: Embiggening the Learning Experience with the Wisdom of Springfield

First Post

It just occurred to me that I've never posted here, and this page looks awfully bare. So:

Hello world!

Perhaps I'll post more when I'm feeling wordier.
